Legalization:

When applying for a long-stay visa, following documents should always be "apostilled" or legalized :

  • Birth, marriage, divorce, death certificates
  • Extracts from the judicial record (Police clearance)

Documents issued in the Russian Federation, Belarus, Armenia and Kazakhstan:

Those countries are party to the Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents ("Apostille" Convention). The documents issued in those countries are certified according to a special simplified procedure : the authorized bodies (see www.hcch.net) of the aforementioned countries affix a special stamp (Apostille) not requesting further certification or legalisation. Apostilled documents will be admitted by official institutions in Belgium.

Documents issued in Uzbekistan

The documents need to be legalized by the following bodies of the country in which the documents were issued :

- Ministry of Justice
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The documents will eventually be legalized by the Belgian Embassy in Moscow

Please note, the documents issued in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan can no longer be legalized by The Belgian Embassy in Moscow.

The competent Embassy for the legalization of the documents issued in Tajikistan is the Belgian Embassy in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The competent Embassy for the legalization of the documents issued in Kyrgyzstan is the Belgian Consulate in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

To have your documents legalized at the Belgian Embassy, please schedule an appointment at the Visa Application Centre.
